Forbes takes a look at the steps one needs to take to launch a dentistry career and how long it typically takes from enrolling in college to applying for licensure. It’s noted that dentists earned a median annual salary of $159,530 in 2022, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), although median salaries vary by specialty and place of employment. For example, in 2022, oral and maxillofacial surgeons earned a median annual salary of $239,200 or more, while orthodontists earned a median wage of $174,360. Dental professionals in dental offices earned a median annual salary of $159,530, while those in government roles earned a median wage of $190,400 in 2022. The BLS forecasts that employment for dentists will increase by 4% from 2022 to 2032 - on pace with the average growth projection for all occupations.
